Day 131:love-in-a-mist

Day 131 Jan 09 2016 Old Bar 6:30am P1060873doc

It was the quiet rustling of the Nigella seedpods (also called Love-In-A-Mist) that first attracted my attention.

The Love-In-A-Mist plant foliage is lacy and fern-like with small flowers…….not too dissimilar to tiny passionfruit flowers. After flowering, the fruit forms as an inflated capsule or pod with united internal follicles that contain tiny black seeds.

When the pods dry, they lose their colour and the sound of the loose seeds within the paper-like pod make a melodic rustling sound in the wind.

I became fascinated by the complex beauty within the internal structure of the pod in the light.
