Day 150: rig and blades

Day 150 Jan 28 2016 Taree 11:00amP1070235doc

The river is the heart of the Manning Valley and as a child growing up I spent many a morning and afternoon windsurfing, sailing, rowing and swimming in its waters.

In the month of January every year for as long as I can remember, Taree has hosted a rowing regatta. For weeks prior to the regatta and a number of weeks after, you can see rowers from the Sydney schools gliding through the water with seemingly effortless grace.

…….as the fresh, pubescent fronds emerge from the bulbous base of the cardboard palm, it often sheds its aged spent stems, dropping smooth coffee coloured leaves in the form of small boats on the ground.

These leaves inspired todays collaborate piece titled ‘rig and blades’
