Day 189:Bunyasaurus

Day 189 March 07 2016 Taree P1040520doc

The leaves of the bunya pine emerging from the grate reminded me of a Stegosaurus straight from the Jurassic period…an apt collaborate moment as the trunk of a mature Bunya pine is often described as ‘being the size of a Sauropod’s legs’.

The Bunya pine or ‘bunya-bunya’ as it is called by the aboriginal people belongs to the ancient family of the Araucariaceae which were growing worldwide during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.
